The article deals with the specific characteristics of the imperial myth, which combines two levels of social mythology – «archaic» and «conjunctural», and differs from the simple political myth by the potential ability to produce additional meanings, giving new dimensions to social processes. The author comes to the conclusion that nowadays the social myth has more chances to become imperial in large states where traditional or charismatic legitimacy dominates.
