The article examines the state of the economy of the Tambov vicegerency in 1788. The authors make a comparison of seasonal prices for basic food products, which are presented in the newspaper “Tambovskie Izvestia”. A special place in the article is devoted to the description of the development of trade on the area of the Tambov Territory. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that as a result of the analysis of the cost of specific goods in the presented region (bread, meat, fish, honey) the authors come to the conclusion about the stable economic development of the county towns of the Tambov vicegerency by the end of the 18th century.
