A.N. Dolgikh, E.I. Puchkova F.V. Bulgarin and the birth of “mass culture” in Russia: to the formulation of the question

The article is devoted to the role of the famous writer and journalist Thaddeus Venediktovich Bulgarin in the socio-political life of Russia in the pre-reform period. Based on his works, primarily the novel “Ivan Ivanovich Vyzhigin”, and the public reaction to it, the authors conclude  that to a certain extent this figure  can be regarded as one of the creators of “mass culture” in Russia.
