The article is devoted to the problem of the prevalence of drunkenness and hooliganism among young people in the Russian village of the 1920-ies. The causes and nature of these negative social phenomena are analyzed. As sources the author uses letters from peasants to the press and government agencies, as well as reports from state security agencies. The conclusion is made about the close connection of youth drunkenness and hooliganism with the peculiarities of the country’s development during the Civil War and the new economic policy.
