V.A. Volkov RUSSIAN-SWEDISH WARS AND CLASHES ON THE BALTIC SEA AND THE COAST IN THE 11th – 12th CENTURIES

The article examines the initial stage of the Novgorod-Swedish confrontation, the purpose of which was: for Veliky Novgorod – to retain control over the eastern coast of the Baltic, which is vital for it; for Sweden – to oust the Russians from there and, with luck, capture the mouth of the Neva and the Ladoga fortress.
