Motivation for choosing a veterinary profession is becoming increasingly important due to the growing demand for veterinary services. We investigated the motivation for choosing veterinary profession, social status and stress level of students. The sample consisted of 120 first-year veterinary students (104 females and 16 males) aged 18-23 years. Motivations for choosing the veterinary profession were related to love for animals, intention to continue family traditions and inclination to practice medicine. Independence in choosing a profession and making decisions about their future professional destiny, as well as a positive emotional attitude to the choice of profession were characteristic of students with a high level of well-being. Girls chose veterinary medicine as their profession more often than boys. Professional education implies the desire for self-development and self-realization in the professional sphere, which, however, is associated with considerable psychological pressure on students. It is recommended to develop stress management activities for veterinary students, considering the peculiarities of their educational program.
