The article examines the scientific activities of the political exile S.P. Shvetsov and is aimed at studying fisheries on the rivers of the Tobolsk North. S.P. Shvetsov in his research focused on the organization of fisheries and the socio-economic situation of people, working on them, the specifics and methods of fishing. He, sharing a populist position and using facts, revealed “ predatory” essence and inhumanity of the coming Russian capitalism. S.P. Shvetsov was one of those who drew attention to the need for environmental protection measures to preserve the fish stocks of the Tobolsk North and raised the issue of integrated use of the resources of this region.
