The article examines the views of one of the prominent Soviet historians – N.P. Eroshkin (1920–1988), who left a significant mark especially in terms of studying the state prerevolution institutions of Russia, and his textbook is still the main one on this issue. This story is a part of the general problem of the development of historical science in the USSR. The author of the article expresses his attitude to the peculiarities of its development in that era, and also assesses the positions
of N. P. Eroshkin and his contribution to the study of national history.
