I.A. Shevchenko THE “DRY LAW” OF 1914 AND THE GREAT RUSSIAN VILLAGE: A SOCIOCULTURAL DIMENSION

The article is devoted to the influence of the “dry law” of 1914 on the Great Russian village. The focus is on the sociocultural component of change. That is, the characteristics of the impact of the ban on the sale of alcohol on the everyday life of  the peasantry, family relationships, social interaction within the community, value attitudes. The analysis is based on the comments of contemporaries (rural inhabitants, observers of peasant life, leaders of the struggle for sobriety). The emphasis is made  on the fact that the implementation of the “dry law” coincided with the participation of Russia in the First World War, which affected the material and spiritual side of the life of the villagers.
