The article examines the socio-professional characteristics of officers serving in the reserve regiments located in the cities of the Tambov province at the very beginning of 1917. The use of the prosopographic method made it possible to form a collective portrait of the “renewed” officers who were in the rear on the eve of the great upheavals in the Russian Empire.
