Myshko Yu.A., Kolchin A.A. NEW ECONOMIC POLICY AND THE NEW DEAL: BACK TO THE FUTURE

«Great Depression» 1929-1939 was the worst economic crisis in world history. Peoples and states found various ways out of the situation that had developed at that time. US President F. Roosevelt proposed and implemented a series of measures to overcome the crisis, known as the «New Deal». In the USSR, by the beginning of the «Great Depression» in the world, the NEP had already been curtailed and features of economic autarky were taking shape. The subject of this article is the key decisions that made it possible to overcome the socio-economic consequences of the Great Depression, including an overview of the methods of establishing the economy in our country and in the United States. The results of the work done are the conclusions of the authors about possible measures in the field of the economy, which will allow within a short time in the new geopolitical reality to support the positive dynamics of the development of the economy of modern Russia. The novelty of the approach lies in the authors’ attempt to draw parallels between the NEP and the New Deal. The scope of the conclusions drawn has practical implications for the adoption of socio-economic decisions in today’s Russia: in the context of unprecedented «Western sanctions», the actual economic blockade of our state, taking into account the «pandemic syndrome»; and is seen in the comprehension of further steps to update the economic course of the state, including with the possible application of measures to strengthen state regulation of the domestic economy.
Key words: Politics of «war communism», NEP (New Economic Policy), «Great Depression», «New Deal», government regulation of the economy, mixed economy.
