The article deals with the scientific activity of D.A. Klements during his life in Siberia from 1883 to 1897. The paper is aimed at studying one of the largest rivers in Siberia, the Yenisey. His geographical heritage related to the study of the upper reaches of the Yenisey is analyzed, as well as his geopolitical research, including his assessment of the role of the Yenisey as a transportation route to strengthen Russia’s position in Central Asia. On the basis of expeditionary materials, as well as D.A. Klements’ scientific reports, it is concluded that he made several serious scientific discoveries, in particular, established the old riverbed of the Yenisey River, explored and described the upper reaches of the river, which made a significant contribution to the geographical study of Siberia. The analysis of his journalism devoted to the study of the border issue in Russian-Chinese relations allows us to regard him as a very large and authoritative expert in this difficult and very confusing problem.
