The article presents the results of theoretical analysis and large-scale empirical research of students of pedagogical universities of the Russian Federation, which determined the development of conceptual foundations for the development of academic mobility and a model of a single environment of pedagogical universities for the formation of civic identity in future teachers by means of academic mobility. The methodological foundations of the author’s position are the system-activity, competence and axiological approaches, which made it possible to formulate a scientific definition of “students’ readiness for academic mobility” as an integrative personal quality of students of pedagogical universities with a mobile component structure consisting of value-motivational, cognitive, activity, reflexive and communicative components. The development of these components also involves the formation of professional competencies of a teacher. Above became the basis for identifying a model of a single environment of pedagogical universities, based on the results of an empirical study that proved a direct connection between the civic identity of students – future teachers and their readiness for academic mobility. Correctly created pedagogical conditions and directions for the development of pedagogical education, taking into account the development of civic identity and academic mobility of students in a single educational environment of pedagogical universities, will allow them to form as citizens and develop new pedagogical competencies focused on intercultural interaction.
