The article deals with an acute problem of organization of research work in the process of training future teachers. The paper contains some characteristics which are associated with the notion “educational research” and describes their essence and typology. The author of the article focuses on course papers and scientific conferences, which are traditionally regarded as the main forms of students’ research work. The paper also describes the components, making up the teacher’s readiness to carry out research work in the school. The main research skills which are required for successful experimental scientific work are also examined in the article.
