G.V. Uvarov FIRST ATTEMPTS OF RESOLVING GERMAN-JAPANESECONTRADICTIONS IN ASIA AT THE INITIAL STAGE OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR

The article deals with one of the aspects of the problem which is insufficiently studied in Russian and foreign literature. This aspect is represented by contradictions between the states of the aggres-sivealliance, Germany and Japan in particular. The relevance of the topic lies in the necessity to over-come stereotypical ideas about the German-Japanese alliance as a monolithic one devoid of internal differences. Using the documentary material, the author proves that the aggressors were ready to make partial concessions to each other for pragmatic reasons, but all attempts of this kind were made out of necessity and, eventually, were doomed to failure.

Keywords: World War II, diplomacy, international contradictions, aggression, economic interests, negotiations.
