A.N. Dolgikh ATTEMPT TO RESTORE POLAND UNDER ALEXANDER’S I REIN AND PUBLIC REACTION IN RUSSIA (ON THE EXAMPLE OF N.M. KARAMZIN’S POSITION)

The article discusses the reasons that prompted the Russian Emperor Alexander I in the first quarter of the XIX century the to make an attempt to restore Poland, within the borders of the XVI century, albeit under his scepter. The paper also analyses public reaction to it in Russia, the most vivid expression of which was N. M. Karamzi’s position, which he expressed in his note «Opinion of a Russian citizen» (1819).
