Based on sources, the author considers the main military enterprises of Grand Duke Vasily III – the capture of Smolensk by the troops in 1514 and the subsequent defeat of the Russian governor in the battle of Orsha, as well as the Tatar invasion of 1521. These significant events have been studied and are still being studied by historians, however a number of circumstances remain debatable. It is them that the attention of the author of the article is focused on.
