Kanishchev V.V., Zнirov N.A. POPULATION DYNAMICS OF LARGE RURAL SET-TLEMENTS IN THE CENTRAL CHERNOZEM REGION IN 1939-2010

In modern historical science, the thesis about the «death of the Russian village» has been established, but the cause-and-effect, and most importantly, the historical conditions of this phenomenon are poorly described, which is the relevance of this work. The purpose of the study was a special study of the demographic development of large rural settlements in the second half of the 20th – beginning of the 21th century. The objects of this article are more than 200 large rural settlements of the Voronezh, Kursk and Tambov regions of 1939, the parts of which later formed  the Belgorod and Lipetsk regions. The subject of the study is the change in the population in the studied localities. The scientific novelty of the research consists in an attempt to study demographic processes according to four main selection criteria, based on administrative and socio-economic features of rural development.

Key words: historical demography, rural population, rural settlements, Central Chernozem region, demographic factors.
