Currently the system of students’ achievement assessment is undergoing significant changes. It requires teachers to choose effective assessment tools. The expediency of the implementation of formative assessment in competence-based approach in a higher military institution is described in the given article. This technology makes the student an active participant of assessment activity. The teacher gets an opportunity to track the students’ progress and failures and change an educational programme accordingly.
