Based on documents from federal archives, including the Agricultural Department of the CPSU Central Committee, the State Planning Committee of the RSFSR, and statistical sources, the article examines certain aspects of strengthening the material and technical base of agriculture in the RSFSR in the second half of the 1970s – the first half of the 1980s. The objective situation with the production, quality and supply of agricultural machinery to collective and state farms of the republic is presented. In particular, reliable data is provided on the quality and volumes of agricultural machinery produced at domestic enterprises. A list and quantity of imported equipment supplied to the USSR from countries included in the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CMEA) is revealed. The mechanism of interaction between the highest party bodies and Union ministries and departments in the practice of material and technical support for agriculture is revealed. The objective history of the problem associated with the development and production of promising integrated circuit wheeled tractors LTZ-145 and LTZ-155 at the Lipetsk Tractor Plant is separately examined. The documents available to the author did not allow us to identify the lobbying policy of the party and state leadership of the country in favor of the production at the Lipetsk Tractor Plant of the MTZ-142, developed by the designers of the Minsk Tractor Plant.
