The article discusses the problems of implementing sociological diagnostics in the educational space. The sociological assessment of the state of its elements, both individual educational institutions and governing bodies in this area, is substantiated. It is noted that despite a significant number of sociological publications on the problems of education, there is a lack of empirical data that allows a satisfactory interpretation of the processes characterizing it. However, such data is often hindered by the peculiarities of modern sociological science. Despite the development of the sociology of education in Russia, it is largely hampered by the unresolved so-called “threshold” problems, the rarity of scientific discussions, and the predominance of quantitative methods of analysis. Nevertheless, the main barrier to social diagnosis is its lack of demand from the administrative and bureaucratic education management system.
