The article deals with the unique experience of holding the Green Capital open landscape architecture and environmental design forum, on the basis of which the team of the Construction and Transport Department of the Belgorod region managed to achieve significant results in reformatting Belgorod’s public spaces through tactical urbanism and participatory design. The author’s attention focuses on the possibilities of a new approach to rethinking urban spaces based on the creative self-realization of citizens in landscaping projects, involving government structures, business representatives and experts in the processes of creating a comfortable environment. The success of the joint mission to improve urban spaces is predetermined by the good communications and activization of citizens in the decision-making process on changing, reconstructing or transforming the environment.
