Digitalization as a structural and technological phenomenon has affected not only the economic sphere, but also the sphere of higher education, including universities, actualizing the need to strengthen the digital component during the COVID-19 pandemic. The article presents the trajectory of the development of higher education from the “factory” to the “digital” format based on the structural genetic method, identifies the criteria for the “digital” format, distinguishes between the concepts of “digital education”, “online learning” and “distance learning”.
