The article presents theoretical studies and practical activities of N.N. Iordansky on issues of schooling in terms of social pedagogy. The goals, objectives and organization of education management in Russian schools in the first third of the 20th century are described. The features of school management of the reviewed period are characterized. The relevance of the topic is the following. The historical and pedagogical research of foundations of schooling in the context of social pedagogy, carried out by N.N. Iordansky, has a methodological value for modern concepts of social education, which form their scientific conceptual – categorical framework. The object of the research is theoretical foundations of schooling and practical aspects of social and pedagogic activities of N. N. Iordansky. The subject is the process of formation and development of schooling foundations in the context of social pedagogy in the first third of 20th century. The following methods were used in the research: historical – structural method, constructive-genetic method, historical-comparative method. Academic novelty lies in the fact that the research paper characterizes the most important stages of origin of schooling theory of N.N. Iordansky. It is done on the basis of interpretation of contents and specifics of priorities, as well as revealing of dominant ideas and approaches, which serve as a backbone factor at each historical stage.
