The article is devoted to the consideration of one of the topical issues in the modern world – the issue of media and information literacy formation, definition of its components, identification of predictors of media and information literacy formation on the basis of the conducted sociological study of students of higher education establishments and students of senior classes of general education organizations. The object of the study is the activity of students of general education organizations (secondary general education) and students of higher education establishments, as well as heads of structural units of higher education organizations and general education organizations responsible for the formation of media space. The subject of the study is predictors and tools of media and information literacy formation. The following methods were applied in the work: document analysis, survey method (questionnaire), classification and generalization. As a result of the research the predictors and tools of formation of media-information literacy are revealed, key points in training of students of pedagogical universities are identified, recommendations for formation of media-information literacy as a competence of the future teacher are worked out.
