Abstract
The article discusses freedom as a social value. It highlights the factors that influence the perception of freedom. The article presents the results of the author’s sociological research «Freedom as a Social Value for the Youth of Ulyanovsk». The research reveals that young people, in general, are willing to take responsibility for their actions and participate in the life of the state. 70.8% of respondents indicated that freedom includes responsibility for their actions. Material status and educational level are among the factors that influence young people’s perception of the value of freedom. In their minds, freedom ranks fifth in the hierarchy of values. Family came first, followed by health, career, and self-development. The majority of young people surveyed feel free.
