The methodology of project activity is presented in this work as an integral system with the parameters of artistic elements aimed at the formation of students’ creative thinking in the field of graphic design. A graphic image based on M.Yu. Lermontov’s poetry was chosen as the
object of research. It was visualized in a sketchbook and made at the lesson called “Special Drawing”. The initial setting of the article is aimed at the interdependence of the dominant components of project activity and artistic creativity – style orientation, figurative concept,
compositional organization. The concept of a sketchbook is considered, as well as the main stages of work on its illustrative content. The specifics of artistic and design thinking are presented in the context of the use of special tools and various information and graphic technologies related to practical activities. The authors of this study consider the mechanisms of developing a visual image by means of graphic design. As an illustrative example, the developed model of the graphic image of M.Yu. Lermontov’s poetic creativity is offered, implemented in a sketchbook based on two educational works performed by a graduate student of the Lipetsk State Pedagogical University named after P.P. Semenov-Tyan-Shan. The study of the components of visual communication of educational design proposed in the article demonstrates the relevance of this topic in the field of socio-cultural space of modern society.
