Grigorieva T.V., Berezina T.I. On the possibility to use «Net promoter score» values in the evaluation of school performance

The maintaining of high effectiveness of educational process in schools requires the constant monitoring of its quality. In addition to various indicators primarily designated for administrators and managers of official institutions, it is of utmost importance to take into account the subjective estimates by students and their parents. As a convenient instrument of such a monitoring, Net Promoter Score (NPS) can be applied primarily designed for business analytics. With a reference to school education, this method is based on the quantitative evaluation by respondents how likely it is that they would recommend their school with a short explanation of their choice. Basing on the distribution of this metric in the whole sample, all respondents are classified as promoters, passives or detractors. The resulting NPS value is calculated as a difference between the former and the latter ones in percentage terms. In the course of our pilot survey, we conducted a questionnaire among 100 parents of Moscow school students. The obtained value of NPS was 38 which is close to the worldwide estimated in the category ‘Education’. We also conducted the context analysis of responses, and the result corresponds well to the quantitative metric.  NPS can be regarded is a reliable tool  for  formation and  monitoring  target setting by school principals.

Key words: NPS, education effectiveness, education quality, monitoring, school principal, target setting.
